Last Shows Of The Summer (mostly free, too)

Hey gang,

Just wanted to drop a line about some shows coming up over this weekend and next which will close the official summer season for us.

Tonight (Friday) Colorway will be playing a long night of music at Manhattan Pizza right in the heart of downtown Burlington, VT (at 167 Main St). The show is totally free and we’ll play two long sets beginning at 10pm until around 1am.

Manhattan is a very laid back place with amazing pizza (but, of course) and the elusive and exclusive (to Burlington) Heady Topper behind the bar. Word has it there will be a steinhoist tonight at 9pm. So if you got the muscle and want to win something (not sure what, really) come on down early and show off what you got. Anyone with peeps in the Burlington area we’d love it if you could forward this email or invite them via our Facebook Event Page here. Thanks so much!!

Tomorrow (Saturday) we’ll be returning to one of our favorite places to play in the area: Luthier’s Co-op on Cottage St in Easthampton, MA to play a full set of tunes starting at 9:30.

This very cool night starts out at 7pm with some amazing fingerstyle guitar courtesy of Caleb Wetherbee. If you’ve not seen Caleb before make sure you get there early. He is mind-blowingly good and definitely worth a listen. Check out his rendition of the “Stars and Stripes Forever (arranged by Guy Van Duser).

Larry Dulong and Random Sighting play at 8pm and they will surely bring some good, rootsy tunes to the stage.

Colorway will play at 9:30 and may throw a tune or two in from our Stevie Ray Vaughan set from this past year’s Transperformance. You can check out just a quick minute of that show here. (and while you’re at that video, why not follow us on Instagram).

This will be Colorway’s last local show for a while so come on out and take it all in while you can.

Finally, next Friday, September 22 I’ll be doing a solo set opening up for The Mal Thursday Quintet at the 13th Floor Music Lounge right in downtown Florence, MA. I’ll play a solo set at 9pm followed by Ray Mason at 10pm and then Mal and his cohorts take over for the rest of the night. Special guest will include Amy Sullivan and Liv Damage (of the Immolators). I’ll also be getting up a couple of times to join Mal and band for a tune.

Thanks to all the new fans we’ve met over the past month. We had a blast last weekend at our friend Jeff and Sharon’s party in Salem, NH and at Mine Oyster in Boothbay Harbor, ME. Got to play nearly all of our catalog of tunes and it was great to stretch out a bit and explore. Great to meet some new peeps and make some new fans. We love that you took the time to check out what we do, sign up on the mailing list and support independent music. We can’t do this without you so thanks for making this journey an exciting and vibrant one. Please forward this email to anyone you think might enjoy what we do. They can listen to both of our albums completely free over here on our Bandcamp page.

BTW, there are some new pics from our good friend (and exceptional photographer) Julian Parker-Burns up on the website from both the Transperformance as well as our set at the Calvin Theater when we opened for The Kenny Wayne Shepherd band. You can check them out here.  and see a video of our song “I’m Still Running” right here.

Well, thats about it for now. We’ll have some exciting news to tell you about next month regarding our next album. Really looking forward to sharing our new music with you all in the new year. But more on that soon enough. We have some rock and roll still to make in 2017.

Let’s do it together.

Thanks so much for supporting original, independent music and we’ll see you at the shows.

Rock on,

~FAJ

Hi all,

Just a quick update on this next few days worth of shows.

Today, Saturday, August 19, I’ll be doing a solo set from 1:30-3pm at Look Park in Florence for the 1st Annual Look Park Food Truck Festival.

More info below and here.  in their Facebook event page. Scott Lawson Pomeroy plays a solo set noon to 1pm and after me it’s Galvanizer, a great band featuring John CabĂĄn on guitar, Donny Hayward on drums and the esteemed drumming of J.J. O’Connell.

There will be food trucks from all over the region for your eating pleasure. It’s free to get in, though there is a $9 park entry fee. If you bike or walk in it’s absolutely gratis. Hope to see you there.

Later today (Saturday) you can catch Colorway perform a set at the Calvin Theater in Northampton at 8pm (sharp) opening for the amazing blues rock guitarist, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his band. Kenny’s main axe is a 1961 Fender Stratocaster that he got as a teen. Guess who else got a 1961 Stratocaster as a teen and will be bringing it down to play today? That’s right, me. 🙂 So come on out and catch the band on the big stage with the big sound. It’s gonna be awesome, I promise.

Tickets are still available for this show by going here.

Tomorrow, Sunday, 8/20 I’ll be heading to central mass to the town of Fiskdale (Sturbridge) to play a duo show with Scott Hall at the Homefield Kitchen and Brewery. We call ourselves Two Man Guy. I play guitar and Scotty plays piano. We both sing but neither of us dance. Come on out, have some great food and beer and/or soft drinks and chill with the both of us.

Finally, to close out an amazing August, Transperformance 27 is upon us this coming Tuesday, August 22.

Come on out and celebrate the unofficial (early) crescendo of summer with over twenty bands transperforming as dearly departed rockers in Transperformance 27: Rock and Roll Heaven Revisited.

I’ll be playing in four acts this year. I’m on early with Dan Daniels as Guy Clark. Then around 8pm I’ll be joining the Winterpills as they salute Sir George Harrison. Following that I’m in with Scott Lawson Pomeroy/Zip Cody as he tackles the rock and roll giant, Ronnie James Dio. Finally, Colorway will be breaking out the boogie woogie and shaking off the blues as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. The amazing keyboardist, Jon Carroll and saxophonist, Chris Gentes will be joining the band for this special 10 minute set.

You can read more about all these shows below.

Thanks for being part of our world. We can’t wait to make music for you. The world needs it now more than ever.

Rock on,

What is Transperformance?
For 26 years Transperformance has been entertaining crowds of thousands while raising money for arts enrichment programs in Northampton public schools. Every year the event is held on a Tuesday in late August and sells out the Pines Theater at Look Park in Florence.

The original concept for Transperformance was for local bands to take on a persona of another established nationally recognized act and perform or “Transperform” their bands’ style. The acts that are chosen are done thematically, such as Transperformance 22 “Food Groups” (Heather Maloney as Amy Winehouse) or Transperformance 24 “Off the Map” (Colorway as Boston) or Transperformance 23 “Beyond Bob” (Rusty Belle as Bob Dylan).

This year Alex will dust off the 1961 Strat and flip that pickup switch way up to the neck position as he and Colorway take on Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble.

Alex will also be playing with Dan Daniels as Guy Clark and Zip Cody as Ronnie James Dio. All times TBA

July! Come back!! Amherst Downtown/Jeff Fest (original lineup) plus Drunk Stuntmen and Co Memorial Show For J. Scott “Bow Bow” Brandon

Hi gang,

Wanted to put the word out on some big shows happening over the next couple of weeks beginning today.

This afternoon, Thursday, July 27, the original Colorway lineup featuring Dave Hayes on bass and vocals and J.J. O’Connell on drums and vocals (featured on both studio albums) will be playing a show in downtown Amherst at the Masonic Lodge. The lodge is located on Main St in Amherst between the Black Sheep Cafe and the police station (on that side of the street). It’s free, all ages, and should be a lot of fun. All the details are below.

Opening the show will be Court Etiquette, one of the best new bands to come out of the Pioneer Valley in a long time. Check their single “Above Me” out right here and like them on Facebook here.

It all begins at 5:30 with an hour long set from Court Etiquette. Then, Colorway v1.0 will hit around 6:45 and play until 8pm.

Next Saturday, August 5 don’t miss Jeff Fest. This multi-band/performer bill is in its second year and celebrates the life of Jeff Martell who was a prominent figure in the valley’s music scene until his tragic passing last year. All proceeds benefit the Jeff Martell Scholarship Fund at Greenfield Community College.

And finally, on Sunday, August 6 some of the finest musicians in the area will be assembled at the Iron Horse Music Hall to celebrate the life of J. Scott “Bow Bow” Brandon, bassist/trumpeter for Drunk Stuntmen, Broker, and many other valley groups. He passed far too young at the age of 44 this past June.

This will be a Drunk Stuntmen reunion of sorts. The band sees the first collaboration of Steve, Terry, Scott, Alex, J.J. and Dave Durst in 10 years for a closing set of Drunk Stuntmen songs featuring bass playing by Dave Hayes, Ray Mason, Steve Sanderson, Miranda Brown and Bow’s brother, Adam Brandon. Other acts on the bill include Scott Levesque, Mark Mulcahy, Rob Skelton, Dave Hayes, Zip Cody, Lesa Bezo, Henning Olenbusch and Kay McKinstry.

That’s it for now, gang. I wish there were two less memorial shows, if you know what I mean. But I’m proud to be included in both of them and I hope to see you there.

Remember folks, music connects us all. It can heal and revive. It helps join people from all walks of life from one end of the globe to the other.

It’s what we do. It’s what I’ve done for as long as I can remember. And it’s what the world needs right now more than ever before.

Please forward this email along to anyone who you think could benefit from the power of the music we make.

Much love and appreciation,

~FAJ

PS: This is always a sad time for me to say goodbye to my favorite month: July. You can listen to the song I wrote about it here and watch the video produced by Tom Adams and Reelife Productions  right here.
